Public Information Officer

Summary

Responsible for developing strategies to maximize national publicity and assisting with flow of information to various media outlets, particularly with print, online, broadcast, and social media. Facilitate communication between the university and the public, including the media, to provide timely and accurate information.

Examples of Work

  • Pitch stories to national media to highlight research and researchers, rankings, student outcomes, impressive alumni, etc.
  • Serve as a bridge between UF and the media, helping to shape the narrative around important issues.
  • Create compelling stories that would be of interest to national media.
  • Use various communication platforms and media to share information including research, activities, services, and initiatives.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases and official statements to inform the public about significant developments, events, or initiatives.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with national and international media.
  • Work with leadership to development long-range communication programs and editorial production policies and standards.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.
