The Data Center Engineer I is an entry-level position overseeing the operation, maintenance, security, and support of Data Center infrastructure, beyond systems and networking. Responsibilities include managing operations, site facilities, security systems, installations, and addressing abnormal operations. The role involves resolving issues in two interrelated subsystems, identifying cascading faults, planning maintenance, generating performance reports, and coordinating communication with peer teams and Infrastructure and Communication Technology. The engineer escorts visitors, oversees third-party work, and ensures timely maintenance without disrupting the UFIT Mission.

Examples of Work

  • Perform daily facility walk-throughs, documenting equipment status
  • Address issues promptly through event notifications, scheduling on-site repairs, and responding to after-hours events
  • Escalate equipment/service failures impacting UFIT Service Delivery to leadership
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance activities, overseeing service providers
  • Review Change Control submittals for Data Centers, ensuring accuracy and resource availability
  • Provide guidance on power and cooling metrics for optimal resource utilization
  • Use handheld sensors to assess cooling effectiveness for IT equipment in Data Halls
  • Leads data center connectivity activities, rack installation and management at UF’s Data Centers, including sites on main campus and the tertiary site in Atlanta

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
