Building Code Inspector II
Summary
Reviews University plans for compliance with safety codes and standards. Performs construction inspections to insure compliance with adopted safety codes and standards for construction projects as directed by the supervisor.

- Performs in depth safety plan reviews for all new construction and renovation projects for facilities associated with the University.
- Prepares written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with the adopted codes.
- May represent the department in their area of expertise to various groups such as architects and or engineers, contractors or subcontractors.
- Makes decisions as to code interpretations in their area of expertise.
- Performs on site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes, approved plans and specifications.
- Approves installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes.
- Records inspection results in permit tracking software
- Records plan review comments in permit tracking software
Education and Experience
High school and six (6) years of experience in inspection or the construction trades. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Licensure and Certification
Licensed in two or more disciplines as a building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical inspector and as a building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical plans reviewer by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Supervision
This position does not typically have supervisory responsibility.
