Building Code Inspector III

Summary

Review construction plans and specifications for compliance with currently adopted standard building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes; prepare written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with adopted codes; perform on site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes and approved plans and specifications; approve installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes: meet with contractors and subcontractors to resolve issues as they relate to the application of the adopted codes.

  • Performs on site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes, approved plans and specifications: approves installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes.
  • Prepares written inspection reports for use by the contractor and owner.
  • Reviews construction plans and specifications for compliance with currently adopted standard building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes in accordance with the inspector’s background, training and certification.
  • Prepares written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with the adopted codes.
  • May represent the department in their area of expertise to various groups such as architects and or engineers, contractors or subcontractors.
  • Make decisions as to code interpretations in their area of expertise.
  • Meets with contractors and subcontractors to resolve issues as they relate to the application of the adopted codes.
  • Prepares written minutes of such meetings for inclusion in building files.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five (5) years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma and seven years of appropriate experience.

Licensure and Certification

Licensed in two or more disciplines as a building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical inspector and as a building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical plans reviewer and as Building Code Administrator by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Supervision

This position does not typically have supervisory responsibility.
