Captioner II

Summary

Reviews the work of captioning staff.  Transcribes and interprets recorded digitized presentations in order to provide videos that are accessible and compliant with ADA standards.  Coordinates captioning with vendor to deliver lectures to students and faculty for online learning management system. Recommends and implements new or revised work methods and determines work priorities.

  • Create transcribed lectures for students and faculty members for online learning management system requiring immediate turn-around.
  • Manages and organizes recorded files for captioning staff to transcribe. Acts as liaison between unit and outside vendor to caption lectures for students and faculty in the learning management system.
  • Quality control. Listens to pre-captioned lectures to check for visual inconsistencies in text and captioning to ensure that recordings are properly captioned.
  • Downloads and prepares recorded lectures for captioning materials for online classrooms. Imports digitized Mediasite lectures materials to transcribe for classrooms online using several technologies but not limited to CaptionMaker software application.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree, or a high school and 4 years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

This position does not typically have supervisory responsibility but may serve as a team lead.
