Data Center Engineer II

The Data Center Engineer II is an intermediate-level position that oversees Data Center infrastructure operations, maintenance, security, and support. Responsibilities include managing operations, facilities, security systems, installations, and addressing abnormal operations. They evaluate subsystems for performance, make recommendations for replacement technologies, and represent UFIT with consulting engineers. Reviews reports, conducts tours, reviews change control, and ensures timely maintenance without disrupting operations. The engineer escorts visitors, oversees third-party work, and ensures timely maintenance without disrupting the UFIT Mission.
Examples of Work
- Review daily facility walk-throughs for trend identification
- Evaluate BAS systems, mentor staff for pre-failure analysis, and identify improvement opportunities
- Represent data center infrastructure in Major Incident solutions during leadership calls
- Represent Facilities and Operations in ITNs for equipment deployment in data centers
- Ensure comprehensive scope and pricing in proposed service agreements
- Examine Change Control submissions for Data Centers, verifying accuracy and resource availability
- Acts as UFIT liaison for PD&C projects impacting Data Center availability, reliability, or maintainability
- Provide guidance on power and cooling metrics, trains team on assessing cooling effectiveness, and leads data center connectivity activities and rack management across UF’s Data Centers, including sites in Atlanta
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
