Fire Safety Technician II
Summary
Perform monthly/annual inspections of portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and pre-engineered fire suppression systems in various buildings/locations on-campus and off campus. Responsible for recognizing discrepancies and recommending the correct types of fire extinguishers required for fire protection in all hazard areas, including special and high hazard areas (i.e., laboratories, flammable storage, electrical, etc.) in accordance with state fire code requirements for all locations assigned to route.

Perform monthly inspections of portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and pre-engineered fire suppression systems for the assigned route of equipment in accordance with Florida State Fire Equipment Dealer permits Class 02 and 04.
Repair, recharge, and perform annual maintenance on all types of portable fire extinguishers, including carbon dioxide (CO2) units, and fire hoses for certification and tagging purposes.
Performs low pressure hydrostatic tests.
Install, inspect, test, recharge, repair, and certify all types of pre-engineered fire suppression systems. Performs inspections of and certifies pre-engineered fire suppression systems.
Responsible for recognizing discrepancies and recommending the correct types of fire extinguishers required for fire protection in all hazard areas including special and high hazard areas in accordance with state fire code requirements.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Must meet Florida Statutory and Administrative Code requirements. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 633, Florida Statute.
Licensure and Certification
Must meet Florida Statutory and Administrative Code requirements. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 633, Florida Statute. Possession of valid Class I and Class IV permits issued by the State Fire Marshal, for a minimum of four years, in accordance with Section 633.061, Florida Statutes.
Must obtain licensure as a Fire Equipment Dealer for fire extinguishers and pre-engineered fire suppression systems in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 633, Florida Statutes within 6 months of hire.

Supervision
This position does not typically have supervisory responsibility.
