Journals Manager

Summary

Responsible for managing the operations and processes related to scholarly journals. Oversee acquisition, copyediting, typesetting, printing, marketing, sales, and order fulfillment.

  • Actively acquire new journals, including receiving and processing manuscript submissions, working on the proposal with editors, and negotiating contracts with each editorial office.
  • Analyze, review, and suggest changes to policies for online publishing and open access, including planning electronic projects.
  • Oversee the review process including assigning articles to reviewers and coordinating peer review.
  • Communicate with reviewers and ensure timely and constructive feedback is provided to authors.
  • Oversee production of all journals including reviewing copyedited manuscripts and reviewing page proofs for each issue.
  • Collaborate with the printer regarding submissions, printing timelines, and proof approvals.
  • Oversee order fulfillment and distribution of both print and digital content.
  • Correspond with editorial offices regarding upcoming issues, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Provide guidance on publishing and content.
  • Create and maintain budgets related to journal operations including printing costs and staffing.
  • Negotiate contracts with third-party vendors and online aggregators, including handling the contract negotiations with new vendors.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience working with scholarly journals.
