Laboratory Safety Specialist I
Summary
Assist the Laboratory Safety Coordinator and/or Laboratory Safety Program Manager with implementation and management of the University’s Laboratory Safety Program.

- Conducts inspections of University research laboratories to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
- Evaluates and follows up to correct noted deficiencies; evaluates survey results, generates written reports.
- Performs administrative duties associated with inspection performance including scheduling, computer data entry of resulting information, report writing and transportation to and from the setting.
- Completes special projects including the evaluation and gathering of data from the University research community; assists with training provided to clinical and laboratory staff.
- Performs laboratory safety survey database queries.
- Maintains the University chemical inventory system.
- Conducts inspections of University research laboratories to ensure and maintain accurate and consistent information uploaded to ChemTracker inventory system; including site visits and inspections.
- Interacts with Principal Investigators, technicians, students and departmental advisors.
- Schedules and coordinates site visits.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one (1) year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
