Law Enforcement Trainee

Summary

Participate in the Police Academy or a cross-over academy to attain a Florida law enforcement certification. The Law Enforcement Trainee role involves dedicated attendance, active participation, and successful completion of all scheduled classes and activities as instructed by the academy and its instructors. study and pass exams for the following coursework:   Law enforcement vehicle operations, First aid for criminal justice officers, Criminal justice firearms, Criminal justice defensive tactics, Dart-firing stun gun, Criminal justice officer physical fitness training, Introduction to law enforcement, Legal, Interactions in a diverse community, Interviewing and report writing, Fundamentals of Patrol, Calls for service, Criminal investigations, Crime scene to courtroom, Critical incidents, Traffic stops, DUI traffic stops, Traffic crash investigations, and Scenarios. Upon fulfilling the academy requirements, the Law Enforcement Trainee must register and pass the Florida law enforcement state certification exam administered by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

This position represents the initial phase of becoming a certified law enforcement officer at the University of Florida Police Department.

  • Attend the Police Academy to fulfill the role of a police recruit, aiming to secure a Florida law enforcement certification. This entails consistent participation in all designated classes and activities as directed by the academy and its instructors.
  • Study and successfully pass examinations related to various coursework, encompassing the following coursework: Law enforcement vehicle operations, First aid for criminal justice officers, Criminal justice firearms, Criminal justice defensive tactics, Dart-firing stun gun, Criminal justice officer physical fitness training, Introduction to law enforcement, Legal, Interactions in a diverse community, Interviewing and report writing, Fundamentals of Patrol, Calls for service, Criminal investigations, Crime scene to courtroom, Critical incidents, Traffic stops, DUI traffic stops, Traffic crash investigations, and Scenarios.
  • After successfully completing the Police Academy, register for, take, and successfully pass the Florida law enforcement state certification exam, which is administered by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
  • Engage in miscellaneous duties as required to support the overall training process.

Education and Experience

An Associate degree or a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must meet Florida statutory and Administrative Code requirements. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statutes.
