Summary

Oversees the transformation of book manuscripts into printed and bound volumes, coordinating the movement through each stage of production.

  • Edit manuscripts (or oversee freelance editors) for grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, and factual and typographical accuracy.
  • Serve as a communication link between the author and various publishing professionals involved in the project. Coordinate with acquiring editor, author, book designer, production manager, and marketing department to ensure books progresses smoothly through the editorial process.
  • Perform or supervise a sequence of technical steps in perfection of typography including marking up manuscripts, making and/or verifying corrections, and checking all proofs.
  • Consult with marketing department in preparation of promotional material by editing, proofreading, and occasionally writing copy.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in English or a related discipline and five years of relevant experience.
