Assistant Director, Behavioral Services

Summary

The Behavioral Services Assistant Director is responsible for administrative oversight, clinical supervision, and training of UFPD Co-Responder Team, UFPD Victim Advocate Supervisor, and UFPD Victim Advocates. This position, in consultation with the UFPD Chief or designee, is responsible for writing and reviewing policies and procedures as it pertains to the Mental Health Support Team while abiding by state and federal legislation.  This position will provide expertise and support to the UFPD Training Division regarding mental illness related training topics. The Behavioral Services Assistant Director will coordinate with the Council of State Governments-Justice Center in the management of the Department’s participation in the Law Enforcement / Mental Health Learning Site Program.  The Behavioral Services Assistant Director will serve as a liaison and support person with campus and community partners as it relates to mental health and police collaboration. In addition to these specific administrative duties, job duties include: providing on-site crisis response, mental health and threat assessments, campus consultation, outreach programs, and performing administrative and committee responsibilities. This position is designated as an Essential Employee.  Essential employees provide vital support to the University of Florida and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police or designee.  Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices.

  • Serve as the administrator for oversight, clinical supervision, and training of UFPD Co-Responder Team, UFPD Victim Advocate Supervisor, and UFPD Victim Advocates. Coordinate with the management team in writing and reviewing policies and procedures as it pertains to the Mental Health Support Team while abiding to state and federal legislation. Provide expertise and support to the UFPD Training Division regarding mental illness related training.
  • Serve as a liaison and support person with campus and community partners as it relates to mental health and police collaboration. In addition to these specific administrative duties, job duties include: providing on site crisis response, mental health and threat assessments, campus consultation, outreach programs, and performing administrative and committee responsibilities.
  • Serve as a lead partner on the Behavioral Consultation Team on behalf of the UFPD.
  • Coordinate with the Council of State Governments-Justice Center in the management of the Department’s participation in the Law Enforcement / Mental Health Learning Site Program.
  • Attends Training Classes and seminars.
  • Assists in the development and coordination of in-service and public training presentations.
  • Assist in the formulation of budget information guidelines.
  • Miscellaneous duties.

Education and Experience

Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology (APA accredited) or counseling (CACREP accredited) program.

Licensed in the state of Florida as a psychologist or mental health counselor.

Certified as a Qualified Supervisor (QS) in the state of Florida

Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a university or student mental health setting.

Experience working with Law Enforcement or Campus Safety Departments and knowledge of basic police procedures

Experience working collaboratively with other units within a university setting as well as other campus agencies and academic units.

Significant experience in outreach and consultation with culturally diverse populations.

Experience with complex crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and threat assessment

Knowledge of HIPAA compliance, current statues, rules and regulations relative to State law and University policy as it pertains to confidentiality.
