Carpenter II
Summary
Third level in a five-level career progression. Provides carpentry services. Performs a variety of tasks. Begins/completes the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) carpentry level two curriculum. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager.

- Begin/complete NCCER hands-on training and education curriculum for carpentry level two (delivered by a certified instructor) and demonstrate competency therein
- Assist with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining ceiling tiles and ceiling grids
- Install, repair, and preventatively maintain fixed classroom seating, windows, window frames, and window screens
- Install, repair, and preventatively maintain various types of flooring, vinyl and ceramic tiles, wall bases, and molding
- Build cabinets and counter tops
- Install, repair, and preventatively maintain metal and wood doors and doorframes, mortise locks, hinges, exit devices, door closers, handicapped door operators, and other door hardware
- Assist with installing reinforcing materials and pouring, forming, and finishing concrete
- Assist with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining dig footers and form foundations
- Assist with laying block and brick
- Install, repair, and preventatively maintains sheet rock, insulation, and exterior finishes
- Repair plaster
- Assist with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining rigging straps, hoistways, cables, and equipment
- Install, repair, and preventatively maintain floor joists and truss systems
- Read and interpret blueprints and wall layouts
- Support other trades and contractors
- Clean/maintain shop and all related equipment
- Operate University of Florida (UF) vehicles
- Perform related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High school diploma and two years of appropriate experience in carpentry related work; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
- Completion of the NCCER Core, and Carpentry Level One and Two
Licensure and Certification
Florida Class E operator (driver) license
Supervision
- Supervisor provides daily written and verbal instructions
- Does not directly supervise others
