GIS Administrator
Summary
Geographical Information System (GIS) Administrator serves as lead developer and system administrator for the enterprise geographic information systems (GIS). The incumbent is responsible for developing and overseeing all levels of the multi-tier client-server GIS architecture, including Oracle database, desktop, Web, and mobile applications. The incumbent designs and implements GIS multi-server architecture and also installs, configures, and maintains desktop client applications. Responsible for the upkeep and quality assurance of data related to the university’s-built environment. Works in support of campus units to coordinate their requirements for and use of GIS data.
Examples of Work
- Function as GIS System Administrator for all GIS related processes, systems and projects
- Design, develop and manage the logical, detailed database design and maintenance of standards related to data entry and update to ensure quality assurance
- Facilitate and oversee data automation
- Implement data standards for GIS software systems applications
- Specifies, implements, and maintains the GIS server(s), software, and data to meet the needs of the university, while maintaining detailed GIS data representing the University’s built environment, and updating GIS layers as needed to maintain and/or improve accuracy.
- GIS application development and management.
- Spatial analysis and report generation.
- Provide training on the use of GIS related software, applications and documents as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the geographic information systems field for application to responsibilities under charge.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and five years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
