Groundskeeper III
Summary
Lead a team of grounds keeping employees in providing a pleasant outdoor environment in all seasons by ensuring that property grounds are attractive, orderly, and healthy. Operate vehicles supporting groundskeeping efforts. Landscape or maintain grounds using hand or power tools or equipment. Care for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Direct, lead, and/or coordinate the work of others. Spend less than 80% of work time on supervisory, managerial, or leadership duties. Exercise a certain degree of creativity and latitude. Typically report directly to a Grounds Supervisor or Grounds Manager.

- Lead a team of groundskeepers; direct, lead, and/or coordinate the work of others
- Inspect assigned areas and initiates corrective action
- Assist in training grounds keeping employees
- Operate large trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, forklifts, and related mechanical attachments
- Operate large farm tractors and related equipment
- Operate small tractors with light mechanical attachments
- Operate automobiles, vans, and pick-up trucks
- Perform minor maintenance, such as checking and adding fuel, water, oil, and air; checking brakes; changing tires; and cleaning/washing vehicles
- Load, unload, and deliver equipment and/or supplies
- Operate powered equipment, such as mowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws
- Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers, or edgers
- Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes
- Gather and remove litter
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, or other grounds features
- Arrange for large scale dirt removal
Education and Experience
Completion of the ninth grade and two years of relevant experience
Licensure and Certification
Classified driver license appropriate to the type(s) of vehicle(s) operated
Supervision
- Work under general supervision
- Direct, lead, and/or coordinate the work of others
- May directly supervise others
