High Performance Work Team Custodial Worker II

Summary

Keeps buildings in clean and orderly condition.  Performs heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.  Duties may include notifying management of need for repairs and cleaning debris from sidewalk.  Utilizes familiarity of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.  Relies predominately on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job, but some job functions may require exercising some independent judgment.  Performs general and minor routine maintenance including minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs Works under general supervision.  Typically reports directly to a Custodial Supervisor or Custodial Manager while working under the oversight of a Custodial Worker III.  May report directly to a Custodial Worker III.

Examples of Work

  • Service, clean, or supply restrooms
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets
  • Clean spills and other hazards with appropriate equipment
  • Move furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours or checking to ensure that hazards are not created
  • Clear debris from walkways, sidewalks, and entrances
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings
  • Assists in the adjustments or minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, or electrical systems
  • Minor Maintenance Functions –Performs minor repairs on furniture, fixtures, floors, plumbing, walls, doors, etc.
  • Assists maintenance generalist(s) and skilled trades employees by performing tasks including, but not limited to, preparation of job site, providing ladder assistance, changing lights, and ceiling tiles.
  • Completes light plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work within HPWT lines of delineation.
  • Drive vans, industrial trucks, or other vehicles required to travel to or to perform cleaning work

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience; or completion of the ninth grade and three years of experience.

Licensure and Certification

Driver license may be required (if duties dictate)

Supervision

  • Works under general supervision
  • Does not directly supervise others
