Industrial Maintenance Mechanic III
Provide reliable and cost-effective operation of the chilled water production, electricity generation, steam pressure reduction, and distribution equipment. Monitor and inspect plant equipment. Identify equipment problems. Coordinate plant operation (as necessary) with Progress Energy personnel. During night and weekend shifts, respond to problems with other utility systems on campus and take appropriate action to ensure safety and minimize property or equipment damage, and minimize disruption to customers. Monitor operation of remote chillers and respond to problem situations and plant upsets (as appropriate). Maintain plant in a sanitary and orderly condition. Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on pumps, cooling towers, chiller units, compressors, pneumatic dryers, control systems, and related equipment. Ensure that all operating variables and settings provide for reliable and cost-effective chilled water service. Troubleshoot and adjust (as required) using computer diagnostics, event logs and appropriate instrumentation. Operate, maintain, and calibrate the plant’s instrument and control systems, including pneumatic, electric, and electronic components. Monitor and troubleshoot water treatment controls. Install and commission new or replacement digital controllers (as required). Performs welding tasks (as required). Provide support services to other trades. Drive University of Florida (UF) vehicle. Begin/complete the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic III curriculum through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on pumps, cooling towers, chiller units, compressors, air dryers, control systems, and related equipment
- Begin/complete hands-on training and the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic III curriculum through NCCER and demonstrate competency therein
- Monitor and log chiller plants
- Ensure that all operating variables and settings provide for reliable and cost-effective chilled water service; troubleshoot and adjust (as required) using computer diagnostics, event logs, and appropriate instrumentation
- Monitor, service, and evaluate all chiller plants, distribution equipment performance, and energy efficiency
- Monitor building automation systems by analyzing operations for capitalizing on plant and building synergies
- Monitor and evaluate performance reports for the water treatment controls/program
- Provide leadership; participate in/assist in training lower level positions
- Operate UF vehicle(s)
Education and Experience
- High school diploma and three (3) years of appropriate experience; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
- Completion of NCCER Core and Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Level I, II, and III
Licensure and Certification
- State of Florida Class E vehicle operator (driver) license
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification (within six (6) months of hire)
