Academic Advisor III

Summary

The Academic Advisor III provides expert advising services, develops policies, and contributes to student success initiatives. This role includes mentoring other advisors, guiding students in academic and career planning, and interpreting university regulations. As a senior advising team member, this individual may hold supervisory responsibilities and actively participate in university committees.

Examples of Work

  • Advises students on academic requirements, course selection, and compliance with university policies. 
  • Assists with long-term academic and career planning, supporting students’ progression to graduation and beyond. 
  • Contributes to student recruitment and admission efforts. 
  • Formulates advising strategies and policies, delivering comprehensive support services. 
  • Interprets and communicates academic guidelines and procedures. 
  • Manages academic records in line with legal and university standards. 
  • Monitors student progress, employing academic interventions when needed. 
  • Leads coordination of advising initiatives like peer advising and career services. 
  • Provides data analysis and reports for institutional use. 
  • Upholds NACADA’s core values and advises on relevant committees. 
  • Reports sexual harassment/misconduct incidents in compliance with Title IX. 
  • Mentors and trains junior Academic Advisors. 

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college with two years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with three years of experience.

This role offers mentorship to junior advisors and oversees various projects.
